A January Reset for Better Decisions
Hello again!
Happy new year from the Novaspex Academy.
January has a certain kind of energy to it. New opportunities, fresh momentum, and a natural pull to reflect on what we want to do differently this year.
So this month we’re focusing on a skill that quietly shapes almost everything else: Decision Making.
January Reflection: When decisions feel heavy, it’s usually not because we’re “bad at choosing”
Most decisions at work aren’t simple yes or no choices. They’re made in motion, with partial information, competing priorities, and other people’s perspectives in the mix.
When decision making gets stuck, it’s often because something underneath is unclear:
What matters most right now (and what matters less)
What we’re assuming, without realizing it
Who needs to be part of the choice, and who doesn’t
Whether we’re trying to decide too early, or waiting too long
The goal isn’t to make perfect decisions. It’s to make decisions that move things forward, with enough clarity that you can act, learn, and adjust.
Try this: A 5-minute “Decision Snapshot”
Taking time to articulate the target goal and the surrounding circumstances of a decision will help you gain clarity and strengthen your stakeholder alignment. Pick one real decision you’re facing this week (small or big), and then note down your thoughts about the following:
The goal:
What is the targeted outcome?
Would all relevant stakeholders phrase it the same way?
How could we measure whether we have achieved the outcome?
The circumstances:
What are guardrails you cannot change but have to accept?
How much is this a priority at the moment compared to other open topics?
How reversible is the decision?
This will give you a strong basis to evaluate the right approach and timing to move forward with your decision.
🔎 Share your reflection
Which part trips you up more often?
📩 Getting clarity and alignment on the decision and what we are aiming for
📩 Considering the right approach through evaluating the circumstances for a decision
(Simply click one of the above, and if you feel like sharing one sentence on why, we’d love to hear it.)
Pilot reminder: There’s still time to join our first cohorts
Our first Novaspex Academy pilot courses begin in just a few weeks and registration is still open. We’re starting with three foundational skills:
Big Picture Thinking: Train your brain to zoom out. Learn how to recognize patterns, navigate systems, and understand how different parts of your organization connect.
Empathy: Turn empathy into a practical communication skill to motivate others and resolve conflict without eroding trust. Master evidence-based frameworks to navigate high-stakes conversations with confidence and integrity.
Decision Making; Navigate complexity with ease and make decisions that truly move things forward. Discover practical methods and tools that bring structure, transparency, and confidence to every choice.
If you’re curious and want a small-group learning experience that’s practical and reflective, we’d love to have you join.
